For the graduate program applicant, the admissions committee will also weigh
the following criteria:
Does the applicant have a GPA of 2.75? Does the applicant have an undergraduate
degree from an accredited program? Does the applicant have at least two years
work experience? Applicants will be notified quickly of the admission decision,
but no later than one month from date of submittal.
Can I waive the TOEFL requirement?
The Test for English as a Foreign Language is administered to foreign students
wishing to study at a US university. UMT requires that students score at least
550 for admission to the master's degree programs. Even then, students may have
to take extra English courses in their first semester, based on an English placement
test after arrival. (Students who score 600 or higher are exempt from this requirement).
Please note that if a foreign student already has a degree from a university
where the teaching language is English (US, Canada, UK, Australia, etc.) , the
TOEFL exam is not required.
UMT's Institutional Code for TOEFL is 7853.
Do I need to take the GRE or GMAT test?
The examinations are not required for the master's degree programs. Good scores
on these tests (560 or better for GMAT, for example), if taken in the last five
years, could be helpful to the committee in considering a student's application
for the master's degree program.
UMT's Institutional Code for both the GRE is 5592 and for the GMAT is: Full-Time
MBA: XVM-MN-64 and Part-time MBA: XVM-MN-23.
How flexible is the program to fit my individual goals and needs?
UMT is dedicated to ensuring that each student gets the maximum benefit from
his or her educational experience. Advisors can help guide students in the selection
of courses and tracks that suit their individual needs. UMT will make every
effort to help students get the most of their master's degree.
Can I take the degree part time?
Yes, in fact most current students are enrolled part-time. We recognize that
most of those who are interested in this program are already in the work force.
The MS in Management must be completed within a three-year period. The MBA degree
must be completed within a five-year period.
How much is the tuition?
UMT’s tuition is $390 per credit hour. This does not include nominal university
fees, the application fee, textbooks and materials, etc.
Can I get financial aid?
UMT is approved to provide Federal Studnet Aid (FSA, Title IV). Interested applicants should
complete the current year's FAFSA (fafsa.ed.gov) with UMT's school code (041103).
Can I get college credit by examination using DSST, CLEP, or other exams?
Yes. UMT awards credits for examinations using the ACE guidelines. UMT's DSST
institution code is 8186.
What is project management?
Project management is often referred to as the "accidental profession" because
most of those currently engaged in project management didn't set out to do so,
but rather were assigned to a project by senior management. However, as organizations
down size, outsource, and re-engineer their management structures, they increasingly
set up smaller, discrete work units, often cutting across existing departments
and divisions. In fact, many larger organizations are "projectizing" their work.
A project usually has a beginning, a middle, and an end. This is what sets it
apart from "process" management. Project managers often describe their jobs
as delivering a product or service "on time, within budget, and according to
specifications."
What is the PMBOK® Guide?
Part of the course work is based on A Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge
or PMBOK® Guide, an extensive collection of information formulated by the Project Management
Institute, with which the program is closely aligned. The PMBOK® Guide was created
by professionals from scores of industries and reflects what project management
practitioners refer to as the nine core competencies: scope management, time
management, cost management, human resource management, risk management, quality
management, communications management, and overall integration. Students are
expected to master these competencies through theoretical and practical applications.
What is meant by Project Management certification or the PMP® exam?
As project management has evolved, efforts have been made to set standards and
establish a certification process for the Project Management Professional (PMP).
The most widespread certification effort is through the Project Management Institute,
which administers a certification exam worldwide based on the PMBOK® Guide's core competency
areas (see previous question).
Those who have obtained the Executive Certificate and gone through the MS degree
program are well-positioned to then take and pass the PMI certification exam.
