Building Bridges Through Project Management

Hentrick M Eveluck (GCPM '24) was born and raised on a remote and tiny island called Oneop. The island has an estimated land area of 1.5 sq. kilometers - or about 0.58 sq. miles - and less than 1,000 people in the population. Oneop is part of the State of Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), a developing sovereign island nation geographically located in the western pacific region.

Years after he earned his master's degrees in business and public administration in 2003, Hentrick began to see and appreciate the values and needs of project management. Specifically, how it relates to the development efforts of Micronesia - socially and economically. Currently, there are several development projects in Micronesia from the international organization's community, such as: the World Bank, the ADB, EU, and the UN. This also includes the U.S. government through the Compact of Free Association, which helps with development in the Micronesian island nations. The social and economic development efforts in these vulnerable areas of the pacific are now compounded with the ongoing impacts of climate change.

Hentrick became a successful grant proposal writer in Guam (USA), which enhanced his interest in project management. He became a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and won a prestigious student award in 2019 at the PMI Global Conference in Philadelphia, PA. His goal is to become a certified PMP. In December 2024, he completed the Graduate Certificate in Project Management at the University of Management and Technology (UMT). These degrees and accomplishments are intended to pave his way toward starting his ultimate goal: to get a doctoral degree in business administration with an emphasis in project management. Alternatively, he aspires to become a college professor, and he wants to teach project, program, or portfolio management.

"Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the need for effective development strategies. UMT's Graduate Certificate in Project Management has equipped me with the skills to contribute to meaningful social and economic progress in vulnerable regions while advancing my professional journey toward becoming a PMP and beyond."
