Overcoming Adversity, Turning Resilience Into Success

Shaunquelisia Davidson (BSIT '25, ABA '22) has navigated a series of life's challenges while earning her degree at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) and it's a story of resilience, ambition, and persistence. During her studies, she juggled two military missions, four relocations, a challenging pregnancy while pursuing her real estate license, and the emotional aftermath of a traumatic incident at work. “It was a struggle, but I persevered,” she shared.

She chose UMT based on a recommendation. "One of my sergeants referred me to a soldier named Markia Wilkerson, who was attending UMT,” she recalled. Hearing positive feedback, Shaunquelisia was encouraged to explore the university's offerings. She was drawn to the programs' flexibility and the school's acceptance of her military credits. "UMT was the only school that accepted my military credits at the time, and that made all the difference,” she noted.

During her time at UMT, despite life's challenges, Shaunquelisia found solace in the supportive UMT community. “The ease of accessing courses, the self-paced structure, and the exceptional support from staff were incredible,” she reflected, "The staff were always upbeat and caring, and whenever I needed help, it was easy to get the assistance I needed."

For Shaunquelisia, completing her academic program at UMT represents more than just a degree. She's poised to start a long-anticipated career in the tech industry. "This program is putting me exactly where I want to be: in the tech field,” she explained. Not only has UMT equipped her with the knowledge and skills she sought, but it’s also positioned her for future success. "Once I graduate, I already have a job lined up, which has me ahead of the game," she said with pride.

Shaunquelisia's commitment to her personal growth and mental well-being helped her return to UMT and continue toward her goal. With graduation just around the corner, Shaunquelisia is proud of what she's accomplished at UMT and looks forward to the future with confidence.

"UMT provided the flexibility and support I needed to balance my education with military life and personal challenges; leading me to a career I've been working toward for years. Despite every obstacle, UMT kept me moving forward—and now, I'm proud to have landed a job in the field before even graduating."
