Family Legacy Meets Hands-On Support and Transformative Learning

Prompted by her father, Yairick McFadden, an UMT alumnus, Yairicka McFadden (BSCJ expected '25, ASCJ '24) decided to explore UMT's educational programs. "My dad said it was a very good school. I decided to try it out and agreed it's been a very good experience," highlighting the family endorsement that led her to choose UMT. Yairicka acknowledges the instrumental role her father played, stating, "He was very helpful with getting me applied, and working with my Admissions Counselor made the application process very easy and smooth."

Choosing UMT to complete her degree, Yairicka was drawn to the hands-on and helpful nature of the institution staff. "I appreciated how hands-on and helpful UMT Admissions Counselors were. I had attended a school before UMT and they weren't as helpful," she emphasizes, highlighting the stark difference in her experience with UMT. She also values the accessibility of support at UMT, stating, "I liked that I could give UMT a call or email any time I needed help and get responses promptly. Really felt like you had my interests in mind."

Reflecting on the impact of completing her degree, Yairicka shares, "Completing my associate degree has been a big goal of mine, and UMT helped me get there. I plan to continue my educational journey with UMT, hoping to complete a bachelor's degree next." Her achievements at UMT have encouraged additional educational endeavors, underscoring the impact of completing the associate degree in her life.

Yairicka's UMT experience is characterized by three key aspects that resonated with her needs and preferences. "I enjoyed the classes because the coursework and the material are fun and engaging," she expresses, highlighting the positive learning environment created by UMT. The online format was a key factor for Yairicka, who appreciated the flexibility it offered. "I liked that the courses are online, making it easily accessible," emphasizing the adaptability that online learning provides. Additionally, the self-paced nature was a crucial element of her positive experience. "Instead of a strict weekly due date for assignments, the 11-week semesters and the self-paced schedule allowed me to complete my work during times that were most convenient for me while still finishing everything on time."
