Stephen Walker (BSCJ ’23) embarked on his academic journey with a clear goal in mind: finding a university that could provide the flexibility he needed. He discovered the University of Management and Technology (UMT) through a quest for a learning experience that accommodated his busy life.

Choosing UMT for his educational pursuits was a decision driven by multiple factors. Stephen appreciated that UMT is approved to offer GI Bill® educational benefits by the Virginia State Approving Agency, ensuring that his academic endeavors were covered by his military benefit. The flexibility offered by UMT's self-paced programs was a cornerstone of his choice. Having previously navigated the rigidity of traditional semester-based courses, Stephen found UMT's adaptable online schedule to be a breath of fresh air. "UMT's self-paced programs were a game-changer for me," Stephen remarks.

As an individual who values self-paced learning and autonomous progress, Stephen was eager to embrace the advantages of a 100% online education. UMT's virtual platform allowed him to register for courses that synchronized perfectly with his unique schedule, granting him the freedom to complete his coursework at his own pace. This freedom was especially important for Stephen, who wanted to avoid the constraints of traditional, synchronous virtual classes. "Being able to learn at my own pace, without the pressure of live classes, was a revelation," Stephen emphasizes.

Reflecting on his UMT experience, Stephen expressed his satisfaction with the courses. While Stephen is yet to fully realize the impact of his degree on his life, he is confident that it will enhance his job security. Currently employed as a defense contractor, his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (BSCJ) from UMT has already solidified his position and opened doors to potential career growth in his field. "My UMT degree is my ticket to a more secure future," Stephen states proudly.
