Turning Knowledge into Daily Impact
Kathleen Martin (GCPM expected ’26) was looking to pursue higher education so she could build skills that could create immediate impact in her professional life. While searching for a project management training program that would help her excel at work, she was looking for a program with credibility and long-term value. “I didn’t want something temporary,” Kathleen reflected. “I wanted a program that would truly support my career growth.”
That research led her to the University of Management and Technology (UMT). Its strong reputation, recognized standing, and online format made it the right fit for a working professional. “UMT stood out to me – it had everything I was looking for,” she shared. “It gave me confidence that I was investing my time in something meaningful.”
From the beginning, Kathleen was determined to connect what she was learning in the classroom to the work she does every day. For her, the value of the program lies in its immediate applicability. “As a project manager, I use what I learned daily,” she said. “The business cases from my classes often became a baseline for how I approached projects at work. Every assignment offered a unique perspective that improves my performance.”
This real-world relevance became one of the most rewarding aspects of her academic experience. Kathleen especially appreciated the assignments, even when they required significant focus. “The assignments could be time-consuming, but that’s exactly what makes them valuable,” she explained. “They challenged me to think critically and apply concepts that directly translated to my job.”
Equally meaningful was the feedback she received from her professors, which helped sharpen both her academic and professional thinking. “The feedback from my professors has been incredibly helpful,” she noted. “It was constructive, clear, and helped me continue improving. I also really appreciated how concise and practical the course materials were.”
Her coursework within the program was directly impactful. During her program, Kathleen applied to 'The Government New Project.' She was able to use the knowledge she learned from the project management courses to create her presentation that was a part of her application. She also pointed to one of the assignments she completed as a defining academic moment. The assignment, 'The Project Pharmacy Management Systems,' received high marks on the first submission, a reflection of her dedication and growing confidence. "It was really rewarding; it showed me that I was truly learning and applying the material effectively."
Like many driven professionals, Kathleen’s greatest challenge has been managing competing responsibilities. Balancing a full-time job with law school while pursuing her studies at UMT required discipline, focus, and resilience. “Balancing work, law school, and this program was definitely demanding,” she acknowledged. “There were days when it felt like a lot, but staying organized and committed to my goals kept me moving forward.”
Despite the demands, Kathleen remains deeply appreciative of her experience and the growth it continues to bring to both her career and personal development. “I would absolutely recommend this program to anyone who is interested,” she said. “It’s challenging, but it’s worth it because what you learn truly stays with you.”
“Every assignment, every case study, and every challenge strengthened my knowledge and my confidence to lead more effectively at work. UMT has given me tools I use every day, and this journey continues to shape both my career and my future.”
