UMT’s Vice President, Dr. C. Eric Kirkland, announced that UMT has received approval from the Distance Education and Training Council to offerAssociate of Science in Computer Science (ASCS) and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS). In the letter from Mr. Michael Lambert, Executive Director of the DETC, he wishes “UMT congratulations and continued success with its new Associate and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree programs.”

Over the years, many of UMT’s students at the undergraduate level have expressed a strong interest in bachelor of science degree programs that are related to computer science, information systems, software engineering, or the management of projects involving software design and development. Other students have expressed an interest in pursuing a master’s degree in computer science and information technology with UMT, but they lack the prerequisite bachelor’s degrees. In addition, many students have approached UMT with the desire to further their education at the undergraduate level with specific emphasis on computer science and information technology. UMT’s new undergraduate programs in computer science will meet the needs of these students.

The ASCS degree provides a strong foundation in computer science and related disciplines for students preparing to enter the BSCS program. The BSCS is a degree-completion program at the upper level (junior and senior years). The curriculum was designed to build on the unique strengths of UMT in project management education and to complement UMT’s Master of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology. For the BSCS program, UMT offers four majors: Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, and Software Engineering.

Accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council, the University of Management and Technology provides undergraduate and graduate degree programs for working adults with specializations in business administration, computer science, information technology, management, project management, and acquisition management.
