UMT announced the first UMT-PMIWDC Scholarship was awarded today. Academic Dean, Dr. Davidson Frame, presented the scholarship to Mr. Mohammad Malik Sakil at the PMIWDC dinner meeting.

Mr. Sakil was elated. “My employer does not have the staff development fund for taking the courses that I need to prepare for the PMP exam and to enhance my skills. I have a four-member family to take care of. So it is hard to find resources to finance the continuing education as a project manager in non-for-profit sector.” Visit our UMT-PMI component scholarship program recipients page to read more about these project management practitioners.

Dean Frame expressed his appreciation for PMIWDC Chapter's support in the program. “By actively implementing various scholarship programs, PMIWDC Board of Directors has set an excellent example in promoting PM knowledge and serving its members. Mr. Ron Taylor, President, and Ms. Linda Cantey, President Elect, both involved in working with the UMT's Scholarship Program Office to ensure the success of the program. We are grateful for their vision and effort in making UMT-PMIWDC Scholarship a reality to its members.”

UMT established this scholarship program to support the educational efforts by nonprofit local chapters of the Project Management Institute. The largest local chapter is the Washington D.C. Chapter (PMIWDC). It serves more than 7,000 members in the metropolitan area. Prior to this program, UMT also established a UMT-PMI SIG scholarship program with the IT&T SIG, which has been awarded to three recipients.

UMT offers the scholarship semiannually. The spring scholarship provides tuition for UMT professional development courses. The fall scholarship provides tuition for UMT academic project management courses. These courses may be applied to undergraduate or graduate degrees. These courses also earn professional development units (PDU). PDUs help students earn or maintain Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Each scholarship is valued at $2,000.
