ARLINGTON, Virginia, April 30, 2008
Twelve Hong Kong Junior Police Officers (JPOs) pursuing lifelong learning during their off-duty time have earned their Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree from the University of Management and Technology (UMT) through UMT's online education.
The officers are Sergeant Cheung Kim-fung, and Police Constable's Lau Yuk-fai, Lui Wing-hing, Lau Chi-chung, Wong Chung-yin, Wong Po-chun, Chan Cho-kin, Tsoi Yiu-chung, Wong Kam-wai, Chan Wai-tak, Chan Man-ting and Cheung Po-chi.
Considering good management skills very important for their jobs and promotion, the officers began studying in the Business Administration program at UMT in 2006. UMT allows students to pursue higher academic qualifications through online learning environments, which enable them to keep their job and stay in their home country.
"The program meets the needs of today's busy students. It is flexible, delivered through new and innovative technologies, and allows students to achieve their educational goals outside a traditional classroom setting," said SGT Cheung.
All of the 12 officers say they enjoy lifelong learning because they can prepare themselves for the dynamic changes in the law enforcement work within Hong Kong. Lifelong learning also enables them to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing environment and the ever-increasing demands of the public they serve. They also have had an opportunity to share their experiences and knowledge with fellow students from different trades.
At the Graduation Ceremony held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on 27 February 2008, SGT Cheung had the honor of giving a speech as the Graduate Representative on the stage in the presence of the UMT President, Dr. Yanping Chen.
