UMT Appointed Dr. C. Eric Kirkland as Provost and Chief Academic Officer

UMT is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Eric Kirkland as its Provost and Chief Academic Officer, effective September 1, 2024.
Dr. Kirkland brings over two decades of senior executive experience in university administration. He served as Chief Innovation and Transformation Officer, Executive Vice President, Provost & CAO at Salem University from 2008 to 2023, Vice President & COO at the University of Management and Technology from 2003 to 2008, and Vice President and Director of Education at Grantham University from 2001 to 2002. Additionally, he has been involved with the American Association of University Administrators, where he has held various leadership roles, including Director At-Large, Vice-Chair, Chair, and Immediate Past Chair, from 2013 to the present.
"We welcome Dr. Kirkland's return to UMT. He has made postive impacts to higher education at three major universities, and we are excited to have him back as UMT’s Provost & CAO to lead the university’s growth into the future," said UMT President Dr. Yanping Chen.
Dr. Kirkland earned his PhD in research methodology from the University of Virginia, where he also completed his MEd and BA. Additionally, he holds an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, with a concentration in management, entrepreneurship, and strategic planning.
In addition to his distinguished career in higher education, Dr. Kirkland has held various senior management positions, including roles as a manager of computer systems design and development projects for Oracle, Integrated Microcomputer Systems, Transportation Management Systems, Texas Instruments, and Lunenburg County Public Schools. He has numerous presentations and publications to his credit, including several U.S. patents.
