UMT Takes Part in FBI National Academy Professional Development Day
ARLINGTON, Virginia, June 9, 2023
The University of Management and Technology (UMT) proudly participated in the FBI National Academy Professional Development Day on May 23, 2023. The event, held at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, VA, provided opportunities for U.S. and international law enforcement agencies and academic institutions to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The FBI National Academy is a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement professionals nominated by their agency heads due to demonstrated leadership qualities. Leaders and managers of state, local, county, tribal, military, federal, and international law enforcement agencies attend the FBI National Academy. Participation is by invitation-only through a nomination process. The 10-week program—which provides coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science—serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide.
As a testament to UMT's dedication to empowering leaders in law enforcement and related fields, the university took this opportunity to provide UMT First Responder scholarships to the participants. A few selected individuals also received the UMT FBINAA scholarship. UMT Scholarships aim to show our sincere gratitude to those brave men and women by supporting them in continuing their education and expanding their career possibilities.
Mr. John Hu, Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of Management and Technology, spoke enthusiastically about the scholarship programs, stating, "At UMT, we believe in nurturing talent and providing opportunities for professionals to excel in their chosen fields. Our scholarships are a testament to our commitment to fostering the next generation of leaders in law enforcement."
The UMT First Responder Scholarship program is open to all eligible federal, state, and local police officers, paramedics, emergency medical services personnel, and firefighters. The scholarship reduces the cost per credit hour from $390 to $250, waives most fees, and qualifies participants for the UMT Book Loan program.
UMT's participation in the FBI National Academy Professional Development Day underscores the university's commitment to collaborating with industry leaders and equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to make a meaningful impact in the field of law enforcement.
