UMT Holds 2018 Commencement Ceremony
ARLINGTON, Virginia, July
20, 2018
The University of Management and Technology held its 2018
commencement ceremony and reception on June 30th, at the AUSA Conference and
Event Center in Arlington, VA. UMT alumni who graduated within the past five
years were invited. Over 250 participants from the US and overseas attended.
During the ceremony, graduate representative, Mrs. Bettye Lee Long-Walden,
shared her personal story. Dr. Yanping Chen and Dr. J. Davidson Frame also
delivered speeches on behalf of the University.
Mrs. Long-Walden, who
started her Master of Science in Management degree after 20 years being out of
the school and a working-mother, found flexible, on-line schedule allowing her
to take classes from anywhere at any time. She thanked the UMT teachers who took
the time to make her feel like part of the class with their feedback on her
assignments and their kind words of encouragement. She encouraged everyone that
“No matter how long it takes or how difficult the journey, always believe in
yourself and have the courage to follow your dreams.”
At the conclusion
of the ceremony and reception, the graduates gathered at the Iwo Jima Memorial
for a group photograph.
