UMT Holds 2013 Hong Kong Graduation Ceremony
ARLINGTON, Virginia, August 5, 2013
The UMT 2013 Hong
Kong graduation ceremony for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral graduates was
successfully held at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University on July 28th, 2013.
Dr. Yanping Chen, UMT's President, traveled to Hong Kong to attend the ceremony.
Graduate representatives, Dr. Billy Chu, Mr. Roland Liu Tak Lun, Ms. Katherine
Hung and Mr. Frankie Wong shared their personal learning experiences as part of
the UMT 2013 graduating class. Speeches of the four graduate representatives can
be read at: http://www.umt.edu.hk/chi/student02_13a.php. Some five hundred
graduates and guests were present at the ceremony.
In her speech, Dr.
Chen reviewed UMT’s journey in the changing higher education landscape to meet
the demand of working adult learners in the 21st century, and the university’s
achievements in the past 15 years since it was founded in 1998. She pointed out
that the option of heading off to a residential college program at a four year
school is not really one for the great majority of adult, working students
today. These students are looking for an affordable school that accepts the
coursework they have completed and applies it to a degree and enables them to
work flexibly toward the degree. The University of Management and Technology
serves them well in meeting these needs.
Since its establishment in
1998, UMT has awarded 7,320 degrees at the associate, bachelor, master and
doctoral levels and has enrolled 15,762 students who reside in every state of
the United States, its territories, and the District of Columbia as well as more
than 40 countries worldwide.
