UMT offers a Military Scholarship Program for eligible, active duty military, serving in the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves. Military Veterans are also eligible for the UMT Military Scholarship. As of December 19, 2005, UMT extended its Military Scholarship program to include spouses of active duty personnel.

The UMT Military Scholarship awards tuition assistance of 35% of the costs, reducing the cost per academic credit-hour from $390 to $250. Tuition assistance or Montgomery G.I. Bill benefits may be used to cover the remaining of costs.

Provisions of this program are:

  • Complete the UMT Application. The $30 application fee is waived.
  • Arrange for all transcripts (including AARTS, SMART, and CCAF) and other application materials to be sent to UMT.
  • If a transfer credit evaluation is requested, a $30 fee must be paid. The results of the transfer credit evaluation will be provided to the applicant promptly upon receipt of transcripts, test scores, and other supporting documentation.
  • Submit DD-214 or DD-295 forms (or notarized copies).
  • Submit certificates for completed training, military or civilian (or notarized copies).
  • Submit documentation of courses completed that have been recommended for academic credit by the American Council on Education (ACE).
  • Submit documentation of CLEP and DANTES DSST test scores offered for college credit by examination.
  • Provide verification of U.S. military status.
  • Enroll in two academic courses (6 semester credit-hours) per enrollment
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 (undergraduate) or 3.0 (graduate).
  • Spouses must submit documents showing their husbands/wives currently are on active duty.
Active duty personnel: For students who submit a statement of need indicating the cost of textbooks would prove to be a hardship, the UMT Military Book Scholarship will provide textbooks at no additional cost. With these combined UMT Military Scholarship funds, students who are approved for Tuition Assistance (TA) should have no out of pocket expenses to matriculate in the UMT program.
