Q. How do I communicate with faculty?

Email is the primary means of communication. Students may contact UMT faculty by including the course ID in the subject line of an email to assignments@umtweb.edu.

UMT strives to be as responsive as possible to student assignments and inquiries. Our instructors’ goal is to grade papers within 2-3 days of receiving them. The average response time may fluctuate from course to course, however, depending on such factors as how involved the assignments are, how popular the course is, and the instructors’ current work loads. Many courses feature same- or next-day service while others may take a week to ten days and sometimes longer. You should generally expect to receive your work returned graded with comments within a few days, however, illnesses, travel, power outages, and internet service disruptions sometimes intrude.

When fielding broader student questions, we can respond more quickly if the questions are specific and deal with standard topics covered in our courses. However, if the questions entail special research on the part of our faculty and staff, or if a large number of questions is raised, then response times will stretch out.

Q. How do I submit assignments?

Assignments are submitted as email attachments to assignments@umtweb.edu. In order for your coursework submissions, help requests, and so on to be immediately auto-forwarded to your instructor, the course ID must appear in the subject line. Including the course ID in the subject line will greatly speed the handling of inbound mail; not doing so may cause your submissions to idle or even be misrouted. Always include your full name, student number, course ID, and any other relevant information when writing in.

Q. If I have questions or experience problems with Blackboard, who do I turn to?

The Blackboard system is very intuitive to use. Blackboard has an online Student Manual that explains how to use the system. UMT has supplemented this with its own Student Handbooks for Distance Education, which provides additional information. To obtain the Guide, current students may write to studentservices@umtweb.edu. UMT also provides technical support for students who have difficulty logging on or experience other problems with the system.
