Project Leadership

Overview

It is not enough to be a good administrator or good manager. Today, getting things done successfully requires leadership. Project Leadership focuses on the need for leadership on project teams. Leadership is particularly important when running projects, because traditional hierarchy-based command and control skills do not work in project environments: you cannot command team members to plan, execute, and sustain excellence—you must lead them to do what needs to be done.

Project Leadership adopts an innovative learning style. It makes heavy use of real world examples. Students are given scenarios to review and then asked to suggest how a leader would deal with them. In addition, they are guided to learn more about themselves by taking a number of behavioral tests, including the Leadership Practices Inventory, the LEAD test, the Leadership Effectiveness Profile, the Keirsey Temperament Sorter, and the Thinking Styles Indicator. The test results are then tied to strategies to strengthen leadership ability.
