Taiwan Trip for UMT China DBA Students
ARLINGTON,
Virginia, September 22, 2009 – A group of 19 University of
Management and Technology DBA students visited Taiwan for the first time on
a cultural and learning expedition. The group arrived in Taiwan on
September 12, 2009 and spent the first couple of days of the trip attending
lectures in National Taiwan University, National Chin-Yi University of Technology
and Nan Hua University, learning about humanities, life sciences, and science
and technologies.
Following the visits to the universities, UMT students went on
to visit two of Taiwan’s most prominent enterprises- Formosa Plastics Group (FPG)
and Uni-President Enterprises Corporation. The founder of FPG, Mr. Yung Ching
Wang was one of the most influential business figures in Taiwan who despite
having only elementary level education went on to build Asia’s largest
petrochemical empire. Then through Uni-President Enterprises Corporation,
students learned the importance of strong corporate culture and how it helped
the corporation to transform and expand to become the largest food production
company in Taiwan and gradually increased its global presence.
The students also visited popular locations such as the
National Palace Museum, Ali Mountain, and the Sun Moon Lake. During the short
but eventful seven-day trip, the bond between the students grew stronger and
they gained better understanding of the people, culture and the natural beauty
of Taiwan.
