First UMT-PMI
Component Scholarship Established with PMI’s
Information Technology and Telecommunications
SIG
ARLINGTON,
Virginia, March 22, 2006 – UMT’s
President, Dr. Yanping Chen, announced that UMT
and the Project Management Institute (PMI) Information
Technology and Telecommunications (IT & Telecom)
Specific Interest Group (SIG), have established
the first UMT-PMI component scholarship program – UMT-PMI
IT & Telecom SIG Scholarship.
With the growth of the PMI community, about
300 components have been formed over the years.
PMI components include local chapters, specific
interest groups and colleges. In recent years,
a number of the PMI chapters started to offer
scholarships where chapter members receive
funding to take project management training
courses from training companies. As a university
and a long-time PMI Global Registered Education
Provider (R.E.P.), UMT recognizes the importance
and the needs of continuing project management
education among the PMI members.
To further promote education
in project management, UMT and the IT & Telecom
SIG cooperated to offer a scholarship program
for IT & Telecom
SIG members. UMT offers the scholarship recipients
60 PDUs worth of project management courses
whose dollar value is $2,000 per recipient.
Recipients can select courses that meet their
professional development needs from UMT’s
training or academic offerings (please go to
http://pmsuite.umtweb.edu for a list of courses).
The UMT-IT & Telecom SIG scholarship is offered twice a year to qualified IT & Telecom
SIG members. The application for the first
scholarship must be received by May
30 each
year for the Spring scholarship and by October
30 for the Autumn scholarship. For
more information on the conditions and requirements
for winning
a scholarship, contact Mr. Nagesh Lingegowda,
PMP, Manager of UMT-IT & Telecom
Scholarship Program at umt-mgr@pmi-ittelecom.org or view
the IT&Telecom SIG website at www.pmi-ittelecom.org.
“UMT continues to work with other PMI
components to offer similar scholarship programs
in project management in order to provide more
opportunities for PMI members to advance their
education.” says Ms. Lele Wang, UMT-PMI
Components Scholarship Program Manager.
