UMT’s
ASGS and BSGS Degrees Launched
ARLINGTON,
Virginia, March 13, 2006 – UMT’s
Vice President, Dr. C. Eric Kirkland, announced
that UMT has received approval from the Distance
Education and Training Council to offer Associate
of Science in General Studies (ASGS) and Bachelor
of Science in General Studies (BSGS) degrees.
In the letter from. Ms. Nan Bayster, Accreditation
Director of the DETC, she wishes “UMT congratulations
and success with its new Associate and Bachelor
of Science in General Studies degree programs.”
The General Studies
(GS) program at UMT is designed primarily
for working adults who are
returning to college to complete their degrees.
In a sense, the GS program is a “second
chance” degree program to enable students
to finish what they did not finish initially.
Highlights of the program include:
- Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
that defines the coursework for each student
- One-on-one
advising of students to design their program
to incorporate their prior
learning and to achieve their current education
goals
- Students must complete courses in:
- Communications
- Mathematics
- Social Sciences
- Science and Technology
- Business
- Students must demonstrate
competencies in:
- Computer Technology
- Information Literacy
- Quantitative
Methods
- Writing
- BSGS students complete a capstone
Summary Project integrating their course
work and
demonstrating their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Accredited by the Accrediting
Commission of the Distance Education and Training
Council,
the University of Management and Technology
provides undergraduate and graduate degree
programs for working adults with specializations
in business administration, computer science,
general studies, information technology, management,
project management, and acquisition management.
