UMT Becomes
a Member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges
(SOC)
ARLINGTON,
Virginia, August 8, 2005 - UMT’s
Vice President, Dr. C. Eric Kirkland, happily
announced on 20 July 2005, that UMT has been
accepted to membership in Servicemembers Opportunity
Colleges (SOC). This is yet another step UMT
took towards being military friendly and to better
its education services to US military community.
SOC was
founded in 1972 to serve the special educational
needs of servicemembers, who had trouble finishing
college degrees due to their frequent relocations.
Today, SOC is a consortium of over 1800 colleges
and universities. It functions in cooperation
with the Department of Defense (DoD), the Military
Services including the National Guard, and the
Coast Guard to help meet the voluntary higher
education needs of servicemembers.
As a member
of SOC, UMT:
- Grants transfer credit
for courses taken at other SOC member schools;
- Has
0% residency requirement;
- Grants transfer
credit for military training and experience;
- Grants
transfer credit for extra-institutional
learning by accepting CLEP and DSST
challenge exams.
UMT appreciates the sacrifices
of our servicemembers and strives to be as
military-friendly as possible.
The UMT Military Scholarship program reduces
tuition rates to $250 per credit, which is within
tuition assistance limits. For active duty personnel,
UMT also offers a Military Book Scholarship that
provides required textbooks at no cost to servicemember.
All of UMT’s programs are approved for
students to use their G.I. Bill benefits.
UMT
is accredited by the Distance Education and Training
Council, offering associate’s,
bachelor’s, and master’s degrees
in business, management, computer science, and
information technology. UMT is a strategic partner
of Defense Acquisition University (DAU), is affliated
with DANTES, and is a Global Registered Education
Provider with the Project Management Institute
(PMI). UMT also offers certificates in Project
Management and in Acquisition Management that
dovetail with degree programs.
