UMT China Annual Meeting Held in Beijing
ARLINGTON,
Virginia, October 30, 2003 - The first
UMT China Annual Meeting was held on 28 October
2003 in a far suburb
of Beijing.
Organized by UMT’s Beijing Office, the
first UMT China annual meeting provided an
excellent opportunity to build team spirit
among UMT local representatives. All UMT representatives
from Beijing, Shanghai, Yunnan, Guangdong,
and Nanjing attended the one-day meeting. UMT’s
President and Dean also participated in this
meeting.
During the meeting, Dr. Chen, UMT President,
discussed the US higher education and accreditation
system, UMT degree programs and its education
standards. She also explained the administrative
requirements for UMT programs in China.
UMT’s Academic
Dean, Dr. Frame, outlined academic developments
at UMT. These developments
include new books authored by UMT faculty;
UMT education programs operating in France,
England, Australia, Poland, India, Singapore,
Morocco, Taiwan, and Hong Kong; and implementation
of the UMT Student Information Database System.
Mr. Kun Wang, Chief
Representative of UMT Beijing office, summarized
recent developments
in UMT’s China education programs. Dr.
Yaping Wang, Manager of Student Records, and
Ms. Sabrina Xia, Manager of Learning and Faculty,
also presented their reports.
According to Mr. Kun
Wang, UMT’s education
programs are now offered in several cities
including Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Nanjing,
and Guangzhou. Since 2001, the number of UMT
students has reached 1,180, of which over 300
have graduated and received degrees. He estimates
that the number of students graduating in 2003
will reach 500, and 1,800 by the end of year
2004.
UMT representatives exchanged their success
stories in recruiting students, managing local
faculty, providing quality student services
and creating and supporting local alumni associations
in their areas. Recruitment and operation plans
in 2004 were also discussed during this meeting.
