UMT
to Launch Undergraduate Programs
ARLINGTON,
Virginia, May 5, 2003 - On April 7, the University
of Management and Technology (UMT) obtained
approval from
the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia
(SCHEV) to launch an Associate’s degree
in Business Administration (ABA) and a Bachelor’s
Degree in Business Administration (BBA).
“UMT sets its mission to expand rapidly
to provide education programs that are in demand,” UMT’s
president Dr. Yanping Chen said. “We
know that 55% of adults in the United States
who started college did not complete their
undergraduate education for various reasons.
The good news for them is that life-long education
opportunities enable them to finish their degrees.
Globally, the demand for higher education programs
at the undergraduate level is even higher than
in the US. Along with UMT’s already established
graduate programs in Asia, Europe and Africa,
these two undergraduate degree programs will
provide us new opportunities to meet global
higher education needs and to serve a broader
audience.”
Dr. J. Davidson Frame,
Academic Dean of the University, is pleased
with the newly launched
programs. He said, “Built on UMT’s
reputation in graduate studies, it is a natural
step for the university to exercise its academic
excellence in undergraduate studies as well.”
Dr. C. Eric Kirkland,
Vice President of Operations, who led the
effort to obtain approval from
SCHEV, said: “We have worked with SCHEV
closely to obtain their approval and support
to launch our new undergraduate programs. These
approvals set a new milestone, marking UMT’s
continued growth. We have a lot of work ahead,
of course, to better serve students and faculty
over the next five years.”
