UMT
Launches Taiwan MBA Program
ARLINGTON, Virginia,
December 3, 2002 - The University of Management and
Technology will launch a new MBA program in
Taipei, marking
its first program on Taiwan.
The program, set to debut in February, will
have a project management focus. Local Taiwanese
faculty members will teach the courses in cooperation
with faculty from the United States. National
Taiwan University (NTU), the number one university
in Taiwan, will host the program.
"We're very pleased to be able to offer
this program to Taiwan's graduate students," said
Academic Dean J. Davidson Frame. "This
is an excellent opportunity for UMT to build
upon the programs we have already established
on mainland China."
UMT's Taiwan Office in Taipei is operated
by Leading Technology Management Institute
(LTMI), which serves as the program's local
organizer. UMT's Taiwan Office is headed by
Dr. Barry Hsiung and Mr. Alan Liang and managed
by Doris Che. Staff members Sam Chan, Fiona
Chiang and Monica Chung will organize classes,
recruit and serve students, and assist UMT
and local faculties.
"
We are looking forward to working with our
Taiwan Office to expand UMT's program throughout
the island," said UMT President Yanping
Chen. "This program allows UMT to apply
its experience in teaching Chinese mainland
students to Taiwan students."
Drs, Frame and Chen delivered four speeches
to about 100 potential UMT students in Taiwan
during a recent three-day trip there.
"Our Taiwan students are very excited
about the international aspects of UMT's program," Dr.
Chen said. "It will enable them to expand
their connections into China and other part
of world through exchange programs within the
UMT global community."
The UMT Taiwan Office hosted a dinner reception
during which Drs. Frame and Chen had an opportunity
to meet local faculty members.
"It's an excellent faculty," Dr.
Frame said. "They have all obtained Ph.D.s
from top American or British universities,
such as University of Wisconsin, University
of Pennsylvania, George Washington University
and Winchester University. They all currently
serve as faculty members at local top universities."
During the past several years, UMT has established
similar academic programs in China. UMT currently
has distance education programs in Beijing,
Shanghai, Kunming, Hangzhou and Shenzhen and
other cities in partnership with top Chinese
universities. UMT also has established a programs
in Poland and Morocco.
