UMT
Expands Degree Program to Morocco
ARLINGTON, Virginia,
September 25, 2002 - The University
of Management and Technology will launch
a new MBA program
in Morocco later this fall.
A Morocco-based training company, AmeriTech
S.A.R.L., will serve as the program's local
organizer. The company, headed by CEO Alex
Lahlou, will organize classes and help to recruit
students. Classes will begin in November or
December in the capital city of Rabat.
"This is our first program in Africa," said
UMT President Yanping Chen. "However,
we have a great deal of experience in developing
countries which we can apply to this effort."
UMT has established similar academic programs
in China. The university has its education
programs in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Nanjing
and Kunming and other locations. UMT also will
launch an MBA program in Taiwan in November.
"Morocco and China are at similar stages
of economic development," Dr. Chen noted. "Those
similarities will make it easy for us to adapt
our program for the Moroccan market."
UMT plans to expand the MBA program to other
Moroccan cities such as Casablanca.
"There is a great demand among working
professionals in Morocco for affordable, high-quality
management education," she added. "This
program will combine the latest management
theories with practical insights into how to
apply them in a real-world environment."
