Academic Dean Discusses Program Expansion with Chinese Officials

UMT Praised for Efforts to Bring Project Management to China

ARLINGTON, Virginia, June 10, 2002 - UMT Academic Dean J. Davidson Frame recently returned from China, where he met with the Minister of the China State Administration for Foreign Experts Affairs (CSAFEA) and the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education.

Mr. Wan Xueyuan, Minister of CSAFEA, met with Dr. Frame to praise UMT’s contribution in bringing project management education to China. He lauded UMT's efforts in setting up joint educational programs and introducing the Project Management Institute and the Project Management Professional certification program to China.

Mr. Wan encouraged UMT to continue to provide project management training programs to Chinese executives and government officers in the United States and China. During the past three years, UMT has launched programs in project management in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangdong Province.

Dr. Zhou Ji, the vice minister for the Ministry of Education, met Dr. Frame to discuss the future expansion of UMT’s project management education programs in China. Dr. Zhou praised UMT for the quality of its faculty and its strong reputation in the project management field.

"The meeting was very informative and productive," Dr. Frame said. "I am very happy to see that my old friend has risen quickly from academia to become the vice minister of the education in China. I've known him for many years. He is a very capable person, and under his leadership, the Chinese education system will flourish."

While in Beijing, Dr. Frame taught a course in risk and quality management to the first class of more than 50 students enrolled in the UMT-Beijing University master’s degree in project management program. The UMT-Beijing University program, which began in January, now has two classes of more than 50 students each.
