Education and Training Council
Approves School's Application on First Time
ARLINGTON, Virginia,
June 3, 2002 -The University of Management and Technology
was accredited on June 1, 2002 by the Accrediting
Commission of the Distance Education and Training
Council (www.detc.org). The Accrediting Commission
of the Distance Education and Training Council
is listed by the U.S. Department of Education
as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
"This is a great day for the university," said
Dr. Ed Naser, who led the effort. "This
is the result of much hard work by our faculty,
staff, and students. We are very proud to join
the group of accredited universities in the
United States."
The accrediting process involved nearly a
year of preparation, including: the submission
by UMT of a Self Evaluation Report that addressed
DETC's 12 standards governing academic, financial,
and business activities; the monitoring of
UMT's online courses by DETC evaluators; a
one-day pre-examination visit; and a two-day
on-site examination by a team of evaluators.
"We are very grateful to DETC for its
decision," said UMT Academic Dean J. Davidson
Frame. "The DETC examination team was
a highly credible and professional group that
represented university faculty, administration,
business and finance. It conducted a professional
peer review of our university. The evaluation
was fair and valuable to our future growth."
UMT President Yanping Chen said accreditation
will permit UMT to grow more rapidly in the
coming year. Another benefit of accreditation
is that UMT's students will be able to enjoy
several standard government student financial
aid packages.
"Accreditation provides the university
with credibility," she added. "This
will enable us to put a great deal more effort
towards recruiting students."
