UMT President,
Dean Meet with 170 MBA Students in Shanghai
ARLINGTON, Virginia,
August 23, 2001 - UMT President Yanping Chen and Academic
Dean J. Davidson Frame met with about 170 students
in the university's MBA program in Shanghai on
August 11.
The meeting took place during a reception
held in their honor. They met with students
who are in a program being jointly run by UMT
and Shanghai Jiaotong University.
"We were surprised to see so many students
there," Dr. Chen said. "This is the
first time we had met them face-to-face. It
was very rewarding to be able to talk with
them."
During this reception, Drs. Chen and Frame
answered many questions from the students about
career and educational opportunities overseas.
"They were interested in knowing how
American students study, how they balance their
work and school, if their employer pays their
tuition and provide study-leave," Dr.
Chen said. "They are looking forward to
completing their program and moving on with
the next stage of their career."
The students, who were from the program's
Spring and Fall 2001 classes, seem to value
their UMT education, which is providing them
with a fresh outlook in business and in life.
"UMT is proud to be a pioneer in bringing
Western-style MBA programs to China," Dr.
Chen noted. "China will need about 300,000
MBAs to meet its economic growth, but Chinese
universities are only graduating about 2,000
annually. This presents a major opportunity
for us."
