UMT to Launch MBA Program in Shanghai

Students to Focus on Project Management

ARLINGTON, Virginia, August 22, 2001 - UMT, a world leader in project management education, has reached an agreement with a prominent Shanghai university to launch a joint MBA program this fall.

The agreement with the Eastern China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) marks the establishment of UMT's second degree program in Shanghai, which is China's second largest city. UMT also has an ongoing graduate program in Beijing.

"We're very pleased to be working with ECUST," said UMT President Yanping Chen. "We believe that our two universities have complementary strengths that will make this a fruitful partnership."

The agreement was reached during a recent visit to Shanghai by Dr. Chen and UMT Academic Dean J. Davidson Frame. The UMT officials met with: Dongshan Zhang, ECUST vice president; Regina Huang, vice-dean of the Business School; Schihao Qian, managing dean of the Business School; and other university administrators and faculty members.

Founded in 1952, ECUST is a comprehensive university with 14 schools and 12,000 students. UMT will be working with the university's Business School to deliver the courses.

An estimated 60 to 80 students will participate in the 15-course MBA program, which begins in October. The MBA program will focus on project management, one of the hottest management fields. Instructors from ECUST and UMT will teach the courses.

UMT is a global leader in project management education. UMT Dean J. Davidson Frame, a renowned expert on the discipline, designed the MBA course. UMT's faculty also boasts Dr. James P. Lewis, a prominent project management authority, and Thomas Block, an expert on project offices.
