Continues UMT’s Pioneering Work
in China
ARLINGTON, Virginia,
May 18, 2001 - UMT faculty member Robert Voetsch, PMP,
recently completed the second of two project
management training sessions in Shanghai, China.
Mr. Voetsch conducted prep sessions for the
Project Management Professional (PMP) examination,
which is the certification test for project
managers given by the Project Management Institute
(PMI). The training covered material in the
Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK).
About 20 managers from leading Chinese and
Western companies attended the training session,
including representatives from China Telecom,
Intel, Lucent Technologies, General Motors,
Nokia, and Honeywell.
"The training went extremely well," Mr.
Voetsch said. "The students were very
focused, and they understood the material very
well."
The training sessions
are part of UMT’s
pioneering efforts to bring professional project
management to the world’s most populous
nation. UMT has done extensive training and
is establishing distance education programs
in several Chinese cities.
"There is a great demand for managers
with project management skills in China," said
UMT president Yanping Chen. "So far, there
are only about 60 PMPs in China. UMT is using
its expertise in this field to train a new
generation of professionals."
UMT is a leader in project
management education. Academic Dean J. Davidson
Frame is a world-renowned
expert in the field, having taught more than
20,000 managers around the world and authored
six books on the subject. UMT’s faculty
also boosts Jim Lewis, another expert who has
taught thousands of managers and written six
books.
"We’re very encouraged by the progress
we’re making in China," Dr. Chen
added. "UMT views this as a major growth
area, one that will help bring the U.S. and
Chinese business communities together."
