UMT Promotes
Adoption of Project Management in China
UMT President
Delivers Paper at International Conference
in Xi'an
ARLINGTON, VA, November
1, 2000 - The adoption of project management took a step
forward
during a recent international conference in China,
at which UMT's president presented a well-received
paper.
The International Project Management Forum
2000 conference in Xi'an brought together 200
leading experts from China, the United States,
Europe, Japan and Australia to discuss project
management issues. The conference was held
at the city's new International Trade Exhibit
Hall.
UMT President Yanping
Chen delivered a paper, "New
Developments in Project Management," that
discussed how corporations are increasingly
using project management to structure their
organizations.
"The Chinese are very interested in widely
adopting project management for use in business
and government," Dr. Chen said. "They
started using it only recently."
The paper was very well received, and it generated
a lot of discussion about activities that could
be undertaken to accomplish this goal.
"Many Chinese universities, companies,
and government agencies are eager to work with
UMT on project management education programs,
training, and consulting projects," Dr.
Chen added.
UMT is a leader in project management education
in China. Forty students recently graduated
from the university's Executive Certificate
Program in Project Management in Shenzhen.
"We're looking forward to expanding our
education and training activities in this area," Dr.
Chen said. "This conference was another
positive toward that goal."
