UMT Celebrates
First Year
ARLINGTON, Virginia,
20 July 1999 - The
University of Management and Technology has
completed a successful 1998 and is anticipating
more growth as it heads into the new year.
"We’re pleased with how well the
year went," said UMT President Yanping Chen. "Our
students are enthusiastic about being part of
a new venture, and we are optimistic about next
year."
Students Positive
Students are pleased with the program. In a
UMT survey, students said that while they were
initially attracted to the university by its
affordable tuition and convenience, they were
also impressed by the quality of the faculty
and the challenging nature of the courses. These
features made them want to continue in a degree
or certificate program.
Several students said
that UMT’s quality
is comparable to other grad schools. Others noted
the more intimate feel of smaller classes and
more attention from faculty as standout features
of UMT. "I’m intrigued by the prospect
of being a part of a new venture," added
one student. "I feel I have a chance to
contribute to the overall direction of the university."
Looking Ahead
The University has established a number of goals
for 1999. In addition to expanding the MS in
Management program and upgrading services, it
expects to have a distance learning program on
line in the first half of 1999.
"UMT will work to expand its academic offerings
in other areas," said Jody T. Uyanik, director
of Academic Services. "The university offers
a wide range of academic services, including
certificate programs, training courses, consulting,
and research.
"We want to use our quality faculty and
network of consultants to be a full-service university
in the areas of business and management," Uyanik
added. "We already have attracted a number
of high quality students, who are at the heart
of our program, along with various corporate
training groups. We are confident that we can
build on the foundation we have established this
year to continue to meet the needs of our students
and other clients."
