University
of Management and Technology (UMT)
Opens Doors in Arlington, VA
ARLINGTON, Virginia,
July 12, 1998 - A new
graduate school dedicated to serving the needs
of business professionals through academic excellence
has opened its doors. The University of Management
and Technology offers master's degrees in Business
Administration and in Management.
"UMT offers a superior educational value
on a schedule that meets the needs of today's
busy professionals," said Dr. J. Davidson
Frame, UMT Academic Dean. "We provide a
high-quality education for as little as half
the cost of many university programs."
UMT's strength lies in its blending of quality
instruction, practical expertise, and the latest
in business and management theory. The university's
faculty has extensive experience in private industry
and in teaching at the university level.
"The curriculum includes case studies,
practice, and other elements designed to give
students knowledge and skills they can apply
in the workplace," Frame added. "We
have extensive international experience, which
is essential in today's business world."
The Master
of Science in Management degree includes
four tracks: project management, telecommunications
management, general management, and public-sector
management. The tracks allow students to specialize
in areas relevant to their careers.
Frame, an Arlington resident, is a world-renowned
expert in project management. He recently left
The George Washington University, where he was
a professor of management science and previous
chairman of the Management Science Department.
He has taught seminars and training programs
for more than 25,000 rofessionals around the
world and has written six management books and
more than 40 scholarly articles.
"Dr. Frame's international experience is
a strong asset," said UMT President Yanping
Chen. "Students will benefit from his expertise
in the classroom. He also will help UMT to expand
its international education efforts."
UMT recently concluded agreements to provide
management education and training programs in
China. Under one agreement, UMT will work to
implement project management training and education
programs throughout China. UMT also has reached
separate agreements with three prominent Chinese
universities to develop joint management education
programs.
In addition to the degree programs, UMT is developing
a series of master's certificate and training
programs in a range of management areas. These
short courses will allow individuals to update
their skills without committing to a full degree
program.
Although classes are usually held at the UMT
campus in Arlington, the university can bring
courses to corporate sites. The university plans
to begin a distance learning program in January
1999.
